ModemShare
development has been discontinued. There will be no further
versions or fixes released. Currently there are some
issues with ModemShare due to changes to the DCOM security
settings in Windows XP-SP2, Server 2003 SP1, and Vista.
We are
offering our ModemShare customers a free upgrade path to
a more advanced solution called NetModem.
NetModem supports most of the same features found in ModemShare,
and it is compatible with a wider range of application software
and hardware. NetModem includes support for SSL/TLS encryption,
and Active Directory user authentication.
NetModem
has a different licensing structure then ModemShare. While ModemShare was
licensed by the number of client users, NetModem is licensed
by the number of shared modems (ports) - allowing unlimited
clients. This is refered to as a Site License.
The free upgrade will exchange user licensing to port
licensing at a ratio of 3:1. This works out as follows:
ModemShare 10 users |
> NetModem 3 port Site License,
unlimited users |
ModemShare 15 users |
> NetModem 5 port Site License, unlimited
users |
ModemShare 20 users |
> NetModem 6 port Site License, unlimited
users |
ModemShare 25 users |
> NetModem 8 ports Site License, unlimited
users |
ModemShare 50 users |
> NetModem 16 port Site License, unlimited
users |
ModemShare 100 users |
> NetModem 33 port Site License, unlimited
users |
ModemShare 250 users |
> NetModem 83 port Site License, unlimited
users |
The free upgrade upgrade offer is available to all customers
who have purchased ModemShare Millennium from PC Micro after
January 1, 2000, and it is also available to our future customers
needing to purchase ModemShare as a legacy solution.
