Okay, I have Online INSTAbank running great, and noticed this new lottery program for Online INSTAbank, how do I set it up? A. Here are the correct ways of setting it up: First, you MUST place ALL of the INSTAgames' files into the directory which contains the Online INSTAbank files. Then you can configure the prices for the tickets, etc.. by running IGAME10 /C this will then prompt you for information on the tickets (time/bytes/etc). My batch file to run this is: @Echo Off c: cd\ra copy dorinfo1.def c:\ra\bank cd\ra\bank igame10.exe cd\ra exit And make sure that each night during your system's maintenance that you goto the INSTAgames directory and run IGAME10 /P to process the winning/losing tickets. This should be everything for setup with INSTAgames. ** RAInfo ** Q. I need a Statistics Generator that will work with RemoteAccess 2.x I have found RAInfo and don't understand how to set it up... A. On a different BBS Software, I've seen when you want to browse through their file areas, it gives the filearea name, the total number of files, and the total size of the filearea.. How would I get something to do that .. and use it for a filearea statistic? A. Get a file called FILESTAT by Bill Dykstra, and it will generate a listing like this.. It is VERY easy to setup. This is what to do: Once you unzip/unarj/etc the archive place filestat.* into your RemoteAccess directory (or wherever), once you do that, type in FILESTAT /C this will bring you into it's little configuration setup, the only question it asks you is where the CONFIG.RA is location at, simply insert the path there without the filename, and then the next step is: simply run the program nightly to maintain a correct filearea listing or statistics. Simply run, FILESTAT each night, when you are done it will produce a file called FILESTAT.A?? into your textfiles directory, and it looks like this: File Area Statistics for The Concession Stand Statistics compiled on January 27, 1996 Ŀ File Group: RemoteAccess Utilities (Areas 01-32) Ĵ Area # Name Files Size DLs Ĵ 1 TCS Filelists/NewFiles 19 1,223,675 2,045 2 Archive Extracted Files 10 183,561 21 3 RA 1.11 General Utilities 59 1,940,309 805 4 RA 1.11 Language Files 28 290,951 247 5 ** RemoteAccess Releases ** 11 2,134,127 241 6 RA 2.0x Message Base Utils 89 3,913,203 1,291 7 RA 2.0x File Base Utils 175 11,458,046 2,608 8 RA 2.0x External Chat Utils 23 1,141,125 290 9 RA 2.0x Language Files 32 488,832 676 10 RA 2.0x Help Files 46 1,270,594 2,422 11 RA 2.0x Mail Tossers 46 3,685,967 274 12 RA 2.0x User Base Utilities 99 4,704,957 1,103 13 RA 2.0x Statistics/Ansi Utils 202 9,316,444 2,247 14 RA 2.0x Various Games (Doors) 60 7,750,284 649 15 RA 2.0x Bill Dykstra Utils 44 959,474 1,034 16 RA 2.0x Offline Mail Doors 37 3,791,271 207 17 RA 2.0x Utility Doors 80 5,967,041 859 18 RA 2.0x Upload Scanners 16 1,992,221 172 19 RA 2.0x RIP/ANS PullDown MNUs 18 278,642 689 20 RA 2.0x Miscellaneous Files 112 6,432,084 1,190 21 RA 2.0x Message Editors 31 2,546,544 228 22 RA 2.0x IceSoft Programs 14 985,596 480 23 RA 2.0x Multiline Utils 46 3,126,184 502 24 RA 2.0x CyBiC PRODUCTiONS 16 369,598 397 25 RA 2.0x SoftNet/IST Releases 6 0 0 26 RA 2.0x Prompts & Menu Utils 40 1,455,967 824 27 RA 2.0x RAT/tRAp/NLB Utils 91 1,846,750 1,876 28 FrontEnd Mailers 11 1,168,796 144 29 FrontEnd Utilities 92 5,299,866 634 30 RIP Graphic Utilities 20 1,460,751 281 31 Sysop Deals 10 34,053 88 32 Net Stuff (Diffs,Lists,Apps) 31 873,656 104 33 LORD Addons/Utilities 164 7,706,281 1,665 34 Protocols 22 1,318,012 96 131 New Uploads 0 0 0 Ĵ Totals for this Group 1,800 97,114,862 26,389 FileStat v1.0 - (C)opyright 1993, Bill Dykstra Press [ENTER] to Continue... People have been talking about ICECHAT, it looks too complicated to set up and I don't want to spend a few hours to configure it properly, how do I set it up? (As a door) {+} A. It pretty much configures itself, I also thought it would be too complexed to setup, but .. I had some spare time to mess around with it, and what do you know? IT READS YOUR CONFIG.RA and it automatically setups you up! The paths, pages per day, etc., were all setup for me! I loved it, and now, I use it whenever I chat with users.. Plus, it uses horizontal and vertical chat modes, and also can use your SoundBlaster card (if you have one) to play MODs as a paging tune (more information on this is in the ICECHAT.DOC). By using a program called Doorway, you can redirect the input/output of any text based program to the remote user running it as a door. The remote user can even use his cursor keys, Function keys, Alt-Fx keys, and control keys remotely as well, as long as their terminal program offers doorway support. (Most terminals use the Alt= key to toggle this doorway mode on or off, FrontDoor uses the ScrollLock Key) Here is an example menu and batch file to run those programs remotely using Doorway: ͵ C:\RA\ENGLISH\MENUS\SYSOP.MNU ͸ *** Display-H sysop '1' Execute *c /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 1 *F *L *! *M '2' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 2 *F *L *! *M '3' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 3 *F *L *! *M '4' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 4 *F *L *! *M '5' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 5 *F *L *! *M '6' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 6 *F *L *! *M '7' Execute *C /c c:\ra\sysop.bat 7 *F *L *! *M ; ** This screen capture has been modified to show you ALL of the optional data parameters. ** Create the SYSOP.ANS/ASC files to look something like this: SysOp Menu (1) RA Manager- Files (2) RA Manager- Users (3) RA Config - Setup (4) RA Config - Menus (5) RA Config - Language (6) FrontDoor - Setup (7) FastEcho - Setup (Q) Quit menu And here is the batch file to run the program (SYSOP.BAT): @echo off echo %2 %3 %1>>c:\ra\sysop.log goto got%1 :got1 echo Managing Files>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\RAMGR.EXE -F erase c:\ra\inuse.now goto quit :got2 echo Managing Users>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\RAMGR.EXE -U goto quit :got3 echo Managing Configuration>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\RACONFIG.EXE goto quit :got4 echo Managing Menus>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\RACONFIG.EXE -M goto quit :got5 echo Managing Language Prompts>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\RACONFIG.EXE -L goto quit :got6 echo Managing FrontDoor>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\FD\FDSETUP.EXE goto quit :got7 echo Managing Mail Tosser>%DOOR% c:\ra\doorway SYSF /V:D^U /O:T /M:300 /P:C:\RA\FASTECHO\FESETUP.EXE :quit erase %DOOR% ** Here is a brief explanation of what this batch file does ** * First the co-sysops first and last name is placed in a sysop.log file, along with the function number they selected. * Next a description of what the user is doing in a door is written into a semephore file called %DOOR%, which has been set to the path\filename of USERDOES.[node] file located in the RA semephore directory. Such as: SET DOOR=C:\RA\SEM\USERDOES.1 (For node 1 in this example.) If you do not run multiple nodes or if you don't allow your users to see what doors other users are in then you don't need any %DOOR% stuff. :-) * Then Doorway is run in SYSF mode, which means door.SYS and Fossil mode. ^^^^ ^^^ ^ This is the perfect mode to run Doorway in, as it causes the DOOR.SYS file to be read, to find out the com port number, users graphics mode, and other information there, and then the fossil driver is used for all communications, which guarantees that it will always work in the future even if you add non-standard com ports to your fossil driver someday. Doorway reads the DOOR.SYS from the current directory, unless you tell it otherwise by using the optional /S: switch. Doorway is told to use direct video mode by using the /V:D^U switch. Doorway is told to skip the opening screen by using the /O:T switch. Doorway is told to allow the co-sysop up to 300 minutes with /M:300. Doorway is told what program to run with the /P: switch. * Finally doorway erases the %DOOR% userdoes.[node] file and returns to RA. ** It may seem a little complicated if you do not know whats going on, but I've tried it out remotely on my board, and it works like a charm! ** Look for a file called DRWY222.ZIP 229k on most support boards. ** IceEdit ** Q. If you need anymore, just holler. I am also working on a full blown version which takes the user, step by step, through the setup. ** RATick ** Q. I would like to setup a TIC processor that is a little easier to use. I've found RATick and would like to set it up. A. Here we go, this is what I use and it does it's job and only takes up 38k. In the RATick.Cfg file, where it deals with areas, paths, and the RACONFIG, here is a basic setup. ; the keyword AREA must be UPPERCASE. ; the Name of the file echo area goes next. ; the Number of the file area (in RA) into which this area will be imported. ; the Full Directory name for files in that area. ; AREA RAD_BETA 101 D:\RADIST ; AREA RAD_DORS 101 D:\RADIST Notice that the first word is AREA (has got to be it, and in uppercase) the next line is the name of the file echo. the 3rd line is the filearea number where you want these files to go. the 4th line is the path to the filearea (in line 3). this is REAL easy to use, here's my patch file: if exist c:\fd\file\*.tic goto RATICK ( I placed the above line in the batch file where my mailer drops to the errorlevel after it receives mail. ) :RATICK echo atm0h1 >>Com1 c: cd\ra\ratick ratick echo atm0h0 >>Com1 cd\fd goto START Simple, huh? ** LabTest ** Q. Whats the command parameter for setting up UpCheck in the RACONFIG? A. Here she is: +=========================================================+ = = = Scan online Yes = = Failed scan Unlisted = = Scan utility C:\RA\UpCheck.exe exitinfo.bbs @ *N *M = = = +=========================================================+ Mike Ehlert gave me his setup for UpCheck. ** SkullCheck ** Q. How do I setup JC-QWK with RemoteAccess? A. It cant get any easier than this... Here's the Menu Command: [Taken from JCQWK.DOC] Installing JC-QWK in RA is very simple. Just make a menu command entry for the QWK door and define it as a type 7 exit. The optional parameter should be the full path and name of JCQWK.EXE ending with *M. Swapping should not be needed for JC-QWK, but will probably be needed by some archiving programs which needs a lot of memory (ARJ, for example!) It will look something like this: -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 2 3 4 5 6 12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345 ; c:\bbs\jcqwk\jcqwk.exe *m Action Execute sub-program (Type 7) Display OptData HotKey J AutoExec No Color Color example MinSec 0 TimeUsed 0 FlatCost 0 MaxSec 0 TimeLeft 0 TimeCost 0 A flags -------- Age 0 Terminal Any B flags -------- MinSpeed 0 Nodes C flags -------- MaxSpeed 0 Groups D flags -------- Credit 0 DayTimes --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The setup program for JC-QWK looks pretty much like FDSETUP. It's easy to configure, and you should be setup within minutes! ** PostIt ** Q. How do I post textfiles from DOS into my message bases? A. There is a program called PostIt, which allows you to do this, for Hudson, JAM, Squish, MSG, and EZYCom message bases. I use this program in my NEWUSER.Q-A file, what I is the following: PostIt gets run by a "Exec" statement in the NEWUSER.Q-A file, I post the new user a message in a given message base, and it will address the user by his first and last name, and for the body of the message, a file is imported. This is how I use PostIt: Exec C:\RA\POSTIT\POSTIT.EXE -MWELCOME.TXT -BH102 -SWelcome to T.C.S. -FEric Staufer -T*F *L this is all on one line. Since it's a long parameter, I had to put it under- neath each other, so I could show you. Now for what this does: EXEC tells RA to run a program in a questionnaire. Of course the next thing in the line is the path and the name of the program I want being run. After that, is the name of the file I want to be imported into the body of the message (-Mxxxxx.xxx), next, is which board number I want the message to be posted in -BH102 (-B is required it represents Board, the H represents the style of the message board 'in this case HUDSON' and last is the board number which I use 102), the next is the subject of the message (hence the -S), after that is who the message is from, in this case it would be from the sysop (-F), last but not least who the message is to.. If you want to use PostIt for the way I am, you MUST use the *F *L for who is receiving the message, the *F will pass the user's first name and the *L will pass the user's last name. And thats how it's done. Other options are: Ŀ PostIt v1.00PR The Textfile -> Messagebase Posting Utility Copyright (c) 1994 Quartz Crystal Software. All rights reserved. Ĵ Screen 1/2 Ŀ -M the name of the file to post. * REQUIRED * -B message base type and board number to post in. * REQUIRED * -S the subject line of the message. Ĵ Screen 2/2 Ŀ -B has the following parameters: Hx Hudson Area, x is the area number in your BBS setup Mx *.Msg Area, x is the area number in the .CFG file Sx Squish Area, x is the area number in the .CFG file Ex EZYcom Area, x is the area number in the .CFG file Jx JAM Area, x is the area number in the .CFG file Rx Use Area x definition from your RA configuration If the RA environment variable is set, the directory that it points to will be searched for the CONFIG.RA file. This file tells us where the Message Base Path is that RA places the ECHOMAIL.JAM and NETMAIL.JAM files in. If the message being posted is a NetMail or EchoMail message stored in JAM format, PostIt will create or append to these files as necessary for your mail tosser to be able to scan them out without having to scan all your JAM areas. The RA message area configs will only be used if you tell PostIt to use them. Otherwise, all necessary information is expected to be found in the POSTIT.CFG file. Great program, it's not crippled..! ** FRAME ** Q. I've seen some boards have color file headers and gives a list of info about the given file area.. how's this possible? A. A program thats out called FRAME can do this. It's really easy to use and it gives the users on your board info on several things from the current file area. A|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Files available : F\\\\\\\\\\ Average Downloads: V\\\\\ Total size : K\\\\\\\\\\ Total Downloads : D\\\\\ Most Pop File : P\\\\\\\\\\ downloaded by Q\ users whats this you might ask? This is the header file which is used with Frame. The first thing is the code for the File Area Name, the rest of the pipes will center the information for you. The rest of the information is given for you. The docs give you more info on the available info things. FRAME v2.01 now also supports the ability to make your customized ANSI statistics screens! Several options to choose from! There's: Top Caller Top downloaders in files Top downloaders in kb Top uploaders in files Top uploaders in kb Top File Areas Top message writers... and more! You can exclude the sysop from the listing and also it honors 'hidden' flags. Here's what the FRAME Config looks like: ͸ Frame SETUP 2.01 Copyright (C) 1993-1994 Yat Tung Cheung. And, when you run it during maintence it just countsdown 10 seconds, it DOES NOT ask you to type in like 'Press 'f' to continue' so it's really a great and handy utility for your BBS! ** IceNote ** Q. I'd like to have a nice configurable note to next caller, whats one that you suggest? A. Got IceNote in, and setup in no time at all.. All you have to do is add a command off of your logoff menu, which is a Type 7, and for the optional data, all you have to do run this: c:\ra\icenote\icenote.exe /d:c:\ra *m > thats the path to the drop files. for the output file, NEWS.ANS/ASC is already defined which is configurable in the NOTECFG program. an output file is as follows: IceNote v0.60 The Concession Stand Tempest drunkenly slurs: duh..hello... 10:42a02-03-1995 Press ENTER to continue: ^KA colors are all configurable, and you can add your own adverbs and verbs to make it really interesting. Also, there is a censoring feature and control codes may be toggled on and off (whether on and off ^KX and ^X are not allowed). Really good and easy to setup! ** LWMGR ** Q. I need a good remote editor, what do you suggest? A. Llanoware's LWMGR has it all! Menu, User editors, etc! Plus, All in ONE! How do I setup Motor City's Call Back Verifier? A. All I can give you is the command line parameter, not much as i usually show you, because i dont use the program on my board, the config file is binary as well... here's the command line: Menu Type: 7 Opt. Data: C:\RA\CBV\MC_CBV.EXE /N*N *M ** RATS ** Q. How do I setup RATS for my timebank? A. Well, just like MC_CBV, the config is binary and all i can give you is the command line for now: Menu Type: 7 Opt. Data: C:\RA\RATS\RATS.EXE *M ** CallStat ** Q. I need a good replacement for the built-in Today's Caller program, which also has FrontDoor's Inbound and OutBound stats, whats one? A. I just switched to CallStat, it's a good today's caller program, color & text configurable. Also has support for InterMail and FD. When people hit "T"oday's Callers off of my main menu, they'll see 3 things before they get brought back the menu. Today's Callers, Inbound, and Out- bound stats. Unfortunately I have to run a separate menu when they choose "T" because I want ALL 3 screens shown. I simply made another menu and made the "T"oday's Caller a Type 3 command to GOSUB the CallStat Menu. In that menu are the following: Display HotKey Type Opt Data *** Display TODAY *** Display INOUT *** Return A Sample Today's Caller file looks like this: Last callers at The Concession Stand Created by CallStat v2.2 (c)1992 Robert de Boer Line Name Location Bps Times Logon Logoff 1 John Doe Vero Beach, Fl 26400 127 21:24 23:15 1 Jeff Doe Lakewood Park,Fl. 14400 21 20:28 21:05 1 Tom Doe Daytona Beach, Fl 28800 2 19:45 19:59 1 John Doe III Neenah Wisconsin 14400 24 19:09 19:43 Press to continue^KA The inbound and outbound file looks: The Concession Sta Inbound History on 15-Jul-94 Created by CallStat v2.2 (c)1992 Robert de Boer Time System Address Sent Received 21:19 Daily News BBS 2:362/23.0 107563 bytes 14 bytes 20:23 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 - bytes 710 bytes 19:10 Treasure Coast 1:374/569 - bytes 3285356 bytes 16:13 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 - bytes 4593 bytes 16:08 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 - bytes 4395 bytes 15:59 DataConn 1:374/9204 585 bytes 527 bytes 13:15 Auf die Dauer ZYX-Power 2:2410/105.1 183081 bytes 27 bytes 12:12 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 - bytes 4567 bytes 05:36 DataConn 1:374/9204 - bytes 64950 bytes 02:41 White Lightnin's Realm 1:374/4682 - bytes 1058 bytes 01:13 he Brewing Compan 1:378/17.0 - bytes 3342 bytes Total: 291229 bytes 3369539 bytes Press to continue^KA^KL The Concession Sta Outbound History on 15-Jul-94 Created by CallStat v2.2 (c)1992 Robert de Boer Time System Address Sent Received 21:14 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 539 bytes - bytes 21:06 Treasure Coast 1:374/569 2584 bytes - bytes 19:52 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 490 bytes - bytes 17:00 DataConn 1:374/9204 - bytes 62569 bytes 16:11 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 193 bytes - bytes 15:42 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 185 bytes 561291 bytes 15:36 DataConn 1:374/9204 242 bytes - bytes 14:44 DataConn 1:374/9204 - bytes - bytes 11:24 Info System Technology-NEC374 1:374/169 243 bytes 97259 bytes 11:16 DataConn 1:374/9204 1375 bytes - bytes 09:01 DataConn 1:374/9204 - bytes 15010 bytes 08:00 The Treasure Coast BBs Node 1 1:374/569 - bytes - bytes 04:00 Treasure Coast 1:374/569 - bytes - bytes 03:13 Anonymous/FastEcho USA Node 2 1:154/40.0 - bytes 3764 bytes 01:10 DataConn 1:374/9204 - bytes 91453 bytes Total: 5851 bytes 831346 bytes Press to continue^KA With my BBS's long name, it couldnt quite add the entire thing to the title, but oh well, it reports it really good. How do you setup QuickCall? A. QuickCall is a REAL good Today's Caller generator, which you, the sysop, has the ability to customize your own Today's Caller Screen. QuickCall has the ability to let the sysop insert control codes to make the outputted callers file just the way you want it. You do this by making a TOP.A??, MIDDLE.A??, and BOTTOM.A?? files to let QuickCall throw together your screen. For MIDDLE.A?? ^KA - Caller Number (Today) ^KB - User's Full Name ^KC - User's Location ^KD - Log-on Time ^KE - Log-off Time ^KF - Baud Rate ^KG - User's Handle/Alias ^KH - Total Number of Calls User Has Made ^KI - Node Number For TOP.A?? and BOTTOM.A?? ^KJ - BBS Name ^KK - Sysop Name ^KL - Total Number of Calls to the BBS For BOTTOM.A?? ^KA - Number of Callers so Far Today. Here's an example on how to setup ZenList, I didnt dwell too much time on this, but I did enough to get it to generate filelistings. The ZENSETUP: << ZenSetup 2.01 >> Copyright (C) 1993 Lee Muh Hwa; All Rights Reserved ͸ System Information Paths and File Names Miscellaneous Options File Lists Manager File Database Maintenance FILES.BBS Export Options Import Area Definitions Export Configuration About ZENLIST Save Current Settings Exit/Quit ZenSetup ; Basically a FrontDoor style configuration program. The main things you have to configure is to go down to the IMPORT AREA DEFINITIONS. Then go over to your File Lists Manager and supply upto 8 different filelists you'd wish ZenList to create. You ALSO have to make sure when you choose the filelist manager you toggle which areas you want in the ZenSetup->File List Manager->Areas to List: _ hit Enter and toggle which areas you'd like... then thats the most important part of the installation of ZenList. And here's a list of commands you can do with ZenList: ZENLIST 2.01+; Copyright (C) 1993 Lee Muh Hwa All Rights Reserved. Usage: ZENLIST [switches] Command line switches: /C Full path and name of alternate configuration file /R Include processing of "On request only" areas /D Include processing of CD-ROM areas /L Generate file lists only /M File database processing only /S Strip headers from file database /P Strip CR/LF/Spaces from description in ALL areas /H This help screen ** GET-DIZ ** Q. How can I import FILE_ID.DIZs and DESC.SDIs into RA 2.0x's FDBs? Without shelling to DOS and then extracting the FILE_ID.DIZ and then importing it into the buffer? A. A program called GET-DIZ will do this for you and it's the best thing in the world ! Here's the 2 step way how to install it: File System Options Modem Manager File options ͸ Messages Upload credit 90 Files Payback credit 0 Restrictions Touch dates Yes Errorlevels Sho RAMGR ALT-function key manager Upl Log 1 c:\ra\get-diz.com c:\help\kis c:\help\pkunzip.exe -o @ 1 New 2 c:\ra\get-diz.com c:\help\kis c:\help\arj.exe e @ 1 Dow 3 Dow 4 Dow 5 No DL ; List format All Rights Reserved Missing format Upload scan RAMGR FnKeys <--- Ext arcview Archivers ; take for instance 1> c:\ra\get-diz.com c:\help\kis c:\help\pkunzip.exe -o @ 1 | | | | | |-> see GET-DIZ.DOC | | | | |-> RA's current area# | | | |-> overwrite FILE_ID.DIZ | | |--> path to pkunzip.exe | |-> path to KIS.EXE, this is needed to make GETDIZ work |-> path to GET-DIZ.COM thats all it is.. you can pickup KIS from Mike Ehlert's system. I only used as an example PKUNZIP & ARJ. My system hardly has files with LHA, ARC, etc... GET-DIZ also has the ability to use POLYXARC so it can import FILE_ID.DIZ from just about every archive. to make this program work.. go into the RAMGR and then goto your filearea, scroll down to the filename and highlite it with the CURSOR BAR, then hit ALT-F1 (which in my example I use for .ZIP files), and then it will shell and import the FILE_ID.DIZ/DESC.SDI in a matter of seconds. ** RA-TLC ** Q. I need a good 3rd party Teleconference to either take the place of RA Pro's existing teleconference or need an add-on for my shareware copy of RA. Whats a good one? A. RemoteAccess Ultra-Teleconference is probably your best bet. It's really a good chat program. Users are not interrupted by each other's internode messages. Colors are all definable in the SETUP program included in the archive. If you've ever called a MajorBBS Board, and go into the teleconference this is what RA-TLC brings to you. Whisper to each other, page to another node, spawn off into other channels, etc. Unlike in other chat programs, you do not see flashing "Unregistered" messages all over the screen, and there is no node limit. The only one thing that I wish it had were actions (like Kick ), etc. A simply way to setup RA-TLC on a multinode board is a type-7: Menu Type: 7 (External Door) Opt. Data: *C /c c:\ra\ratlc.bat *N *M AutoExec : No the batch file looks similiar to this: @ECHO OFF CD\RA\RATLC RATLC.EXE C:\RA\NODE%1\DOOR.SYS CD\RA\NODE%1 exit the *N is necessary in the optional data line due to it is used in the batch file for the %1. It's quite simple to setup and only took me a few minutes. If you're still worried about not knowing whats what when it comes to %1's, you can always create separate batch files for each node and then restrict them to certain nodes in the raconfig menu editor (but this batch file should suit you over). ** RADCD ** Q. How can I be able to post a message to a user who dropped carrier on my BBS? A. A good and program to do this is RADCD. RADCD will allow you to post into Hudson and JAM message bases as well as to your defined msg area. Talk about easy installation.. Here's how to do it: Unzip the archive into it's own directory, once you do that, edit the RADCD.CFG to suit your needs, here's a sample of mine: ; RADCD configuration file ( Version 1.02 Format) ; Important Changes have been made, view/read carefully!! ; ; You can use this, with modifications, to get started. ; You may wish to delete all comment lines once you are sure of setup, ; the config will be read that much faster then. ; ; Comments are designated with the semi-colon in column one. ; Use to comment out any value not used. ; ; UserMsgBase : ; Either path to HUDSON message base, or if JAM, then JAM base name ; with full path. ; UserMsgBase=c:\ra\msgbase ; ; UserBaseType would be H for Hudson or J for JAM ; UserBaseType=H ; ;UserBoard - If posting to HUDSON, then you need to give the message ; area number. It MUST be ZERO padded to 3 digits. ; It may be left active, with JAM, as it is ignored. ; UserBoard=193 ; ; SysopName - Your name as sysop, to be inserted via message macro ; SysopName=Eric Staufer ; ; System - your BBS Name ; System=The Concession Stand ; ; NoDrop - Some Door's allow hanging up while in the door, the Mail Door ; JC-QWK comes to mind, and some of them, as does JC-QWK, write a line to ; the RA.LOG. You can specify string fragments here to scan for, if found, ; the Dropped Carrier flag will be set to false. As the Carrier Lost string ; always the last, or next to last line in the LOG, the doors string will be ; found after the Carrier Lost. Theoreticaly. :) ; List strings, one per line in the format NoDrop=string ; "string" being what RADCD is supposed to search for. ; CASE IS CRITICAL! Must MATCH! ; You may list up to 10 door strings, one per line, up to 25 characters ; See RADCD.DOC for more info. ; NoDrop=OLMS NoDrop=Security level 81 ; ; ; LogFile - Allows you to specify the location and name of the log file ; RADCD will create/write. If you do not specify one, the default is ; RADCD.LOG in the same directory as RADCD.EXE ; LogFile=C:\LOGS\RADCD.LOG ; ; ExpandedLog ; RA can generate a COMPACT or EXPANDED format logfile. RADCD is designed to ; work with the COMAPACT format. You can specify here, that you are using ; EXPANDED, and RADCD will do some adjusting on where it obtains the ; log entry date and time, as it is written differently by RA in this format. ; You do not need to specify Compact, as this is the default. ; Also tells RADCD to use a different method to determine when the current ; session has been completly read. ; ;ExpandedLog ; ; CopyColumn ; This works in conjunction with RaLogFormat..... ; When running in multi-line mode, RA will write RA01/RA02 etc to the ; logfile line. This will throw of the username copying procedure in RADCD, ; as it is coded to use a specific position, based on COMPACT format ; log, ie: Column #13 (this is the default, if not configured) ; Load your RA.LOG(s) into an editor, and count over from column one, to the ; first letter of the user name. Multi-Node and Expanded format, this will ; probably be about 24. Enter this value after the CopyColumn keyword. ; CopyColumn=13 ; ; ; ; eof RADCD.CFG An example of a message which will be posted to a user who dropped carrier is: Hi @F, It seems that you dropped carrier on us on @D at @T. If you accidently dropped carrier due to a poor connection or another mishap with Ma Bell, then disregard this message. ..but.. If you dropped carrier on purpose, this is one warning, if you decide to keep doing it, then your access will be either lowered or you will be locked out from the system. We do NOT tolerate people just hanging up on us for fun. All you have to do to hang up is just type "G" twice from a menu, then you'll be logged off, it's not that hard to do. Thank you for your consideration! Eric Staufer The Concession Stand yeah, i know, i just use it as a threat moreover than kicking people off of my board. Whats neat about this program is that it has the ability to not post a message to people if they drop carrier while within a certain door or specific security level. I use it for when people logoff while in the OLMS mail door as well as for my Visiting SysOps . All you do is simply add a statement in the .CFG file which says: NoDrop= note that it is case sensitive, look at what it says in the doc file, and you'll be set. Now how to run it: You MUST run this program after every logoff with RemoteAccess.. It's quick to run, here's an example of what I mean: :START ra -n1 -m\fd\fd.exe*M -E35 if errorlevel 35 goto RADCD :RADCD cd\ra\radcd radcd.exe goto START see, once a user logs off while in RemoteAccess, it'll goto Errorlevel 35, and then it will run RADCD, then it'll "START" the board again.. Very simple. ** RAVIP ** Q. How can I keep an eye on my VIP users? I'd like to know when they call without checking the log every day. A. Use RAVIP , simple, easy & and FREE. Just like RADCD to setup, I'm not going to go through detail by detail like I did on the above. The .CFG file is very similiar to RADCD, so you should know what to do if you decide to use it. How to run it: Just like the above, run it after EVERY logoff.. so right above, notice the batch file and the little loop.. :START ra -n1 -m\fd\fd.exe*M -E35 if errorlevel 35 goto RAVIP :RAVIP cd\ra\ravip ravip.exe goto START if you want to run both, just slap a cd\ra\radcd then radcd.exe after the ravip.exe statement, and you're set! Great programs... try them out! ** ICEBANK ** Q. How do you setup IceBank? A. IceBank setup is quite simple, just like his other utilities.. 1.> Enter the BANKCFG.EXE and edit to suit your needs. 2.> Be sure to set the environment variable SET IBANK= 3.> Have this menu command parameter: [Single Node Setup]: Menu Cmnd: 7 (External Door) Opt. Data: c:\ra\icebank\icebank.exe /d:c:\ra *M [Multinode Setup]: Menu Cmnd: 7 (External Door) Opt. Data: c:\ra\icebank\icebank.exe /d:c:\ra\node*N /N:*N *UTime_Bank *M IceBank is interbbs capable, meaning you can transfer time back and forth from other BBSs into IceBank, which is very unique to time banks! For information on how to setup IceBank with InterBBS capabilities, please check out the IceBank.Doc file. ** ICEUSER ** Q. I need a good 3rd party util which will allow me to edit user records from remote. Whats a good one and how do you install it? A. IceUser is a remote user editor. It allows you to change and view your users while you are calling up from remote.. It's very easy to setup: [Single Node Setup] Menu Cmnd: 7 (External Door) Opt. Data: c:\ra\iceuser\iceuser.exe -d:c:\ra *M [Multinode Setup] Menu Cmnd: 7 (External Door) Opt. Data: c:\ra\iceuser\iceuser.exe -d:c:\ra\node*N *M ** RAUA ** Q. Whats a good util which will announce when users logon and logoff? A. RAUA is not only free, but it's FULLY customizable.. It doesnt have any delays or pauses in it.. And it comes up quickly. All you have to do to execute this when a user logs on is simply run a program in your WELCOME screen, such as: ^XC:\RA\RAUA\RAUA.EXE ON| and then when a user logs off, add this to your GOODBYE.ANS: ^XC:\RA\RAUA\RAUA.EXE OFF| works really quickly, and no one will even know that you run a program. ** ONELINER ** Q. Whats a good freeware OneLiners program for RA? A. "OneLiner" It's made out of a questionnaire, and one of the best ones out there (yeah, i know :-) just have to advertise my other things that I create). Simply obtain the archive 1LINERxx.ZIP and extract the archive into it's own directory. Put the Questionnaire into your RA Q-A directory, and place the ANSis into your textfiles directory, and lastly, place the .BAT file into your C:\RA directory, and place the IST-TRIM util in your path. Then all you need to do to execute it is by EXECUTING ONELINER.Q-A from a menu command, and you're all set. ** THENEWZ ** Q. Whats a good freeware News Program for RA? A. "The NEWZ" It's made out of a questionnaire, and one of the best ones out there. To install it, simply follow the methods from ** ONELINER ** ** CYBSTAT ** Q. I need a great looking, full ANSI, User Statistics program. What do you recommend? A. CYBiC Statistics is just the thing. It's freeware, and makes a great output file. To install it, you just have to run the program once a night in your daily maintence routines. Then just have it display the files off of a menu. just run: CYBSTAT CYBSTAT.CTL thats all you need, and you are setup! PROGRAMS.Q&A Total Lines: 2350 Total Size: 109k
