Installing HyperTerminal

HyperTerminal is included in Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, and Server 2003 R2. It is usually found under Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications.

If you do not find HyperTerminal in this location, then it may have been ommited during the installation of Windows. It can be re-installed in Windows XP or Server 2003 by following these steps:

  1. Click on ” START “

  2. Click on ” RUN “

  3. Copy and Paste the Following Line into the RUN window::
    RUNDLL32 ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\communic.inf,Hypertrm

The HyperTerminal installer will prompt you to insert your Windows CD. Once the CD has been inserted click OK, and the installation will complete.

Another method is to install it from your CD:

  1. Insert your Windows CD, and if autorun is not enabled, run setup.exe from the CD drive letter.

  2. From the Windows Setup program, select "Install Optional Windows Components".

  3. Double-click on "Accesories and Utilities, and then double click on "Communications".
  4. Enable the "Hyperterminal" checkbox, and click OK.

If you are running a later version of Windows which does not include HyperTerminal, you can install the "Private Edition" of HyperTerminal, which is free for personal use. Download HyperTerminal Private Edition.
