CROSSBINDING BINDING WINDOWS 95 98
Subject:
HOW DO I
REMOVE CROSS-BINDINGS FROM MY NETWORK?
Solution:
Microsoft
and LANtastic networking clients, protocols,
and services can both be run on Windows 9x/ME,
but it is important to keep them separate
by eliminating cross-bindings. Cross-bindings
occur when a network component from one manufacturer
(i.e. Micorosoft) is bound to a component
from another manufacturer (i.e. LANtastic).
TO UNDO CLIENT OR SERVICE CROSS-BINDINGS:
1. Go to the Network Properties and open the
properties of each protocol and select the
binding tab.
2. With Microsoft IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, or TCP/IP
Protocols, only Microsoft File and Printer
Sharing service (if listed) and Client for
Microsoft should be checked. Verify Client
for LANtastic and File and Printer Sharing
for LANtastic are unchecked.
3. With Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS Protocol,
only Client for LANtastic and File and Printer
Sharing for LANtastic (if listed) should be
checked. Uncheck any other boxes.
TO UNBIND OR REMOVE PROTOCOLS:
Only one Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS is needed
and it should be set as default. If more are
listed there will be an arrow (->) pointing
to different adapters.
1. Identify the line with the arrow to your
Local Area Network adapter.
2. Remove any other lines with Artisoft LANtastic
NetBIOS pointing to any other adapter.
For Example - the following would all be removed:
Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS -> Dialup Adapter
Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS -> Dialup Adapter
#2
Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS -> AOL Adapter
(any)
3. With the remaining Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS
highlighted, Select Properties. Click on the
Advanced tab and check the box at the bottom
to "Set this protocol to be the Default
Protocol"
Now only Client for LANtastic and File and
Printer Sharing for LANtastic are bound to
Artisoft LANtastic NetBIOS for the Local Area
Network Adapter, and it is safe to reboot.
