Subject:
WHAT REGISTRY
KEY NEEDS TO BE DELETED TO ALLOW LANTASTIC
8.0 TO BE REINSTALLED ON WINDOWS NT, 2000
OR XP?
Solution:
Background:
If an uninstall of LANtastic 8.0 fails for
some reason, it is possible that LANtastic
will not reinstall and the following message
will be displayed: "Setup has found a
previous installation of LANtastic on this
computer. You must remove all previous versions
of LANtastic before continuing with Setup."
Cause: All Registry keys for LANtastic 8.0
were not removed by the LANtastic 8.0 uninstall.
Solution:
1. FIRST - BACKUP THE REGISTRY! The changes
that follow are in the Windows NT/2000/XP
Registry and such changes could leave the
computer in an unbootable state if not done
properly. If such a problem occurs it is important
that a backup of the Registry exist, or else
it may be necessary to reinstall the Windows
operating system and all other programs again.
2. Run Regedit on the Windows NT/2000/XP computer
where you want to reinstall LANtastic and
delete the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet\Services\Afsd
3. Reboot and reinstall LANtastic 8.0
4. In some situations, LANtastic may not install
all components properly, but no error occurs
during installation. This may occur when the
network installation portion of the install
appears to occur too quickly. In this case,
after re-installing LANtastic, restart, and
uninstall LANtastic. Then restart, and re-install
LANtastic again. This time the network installation
portion of the install should complete normally.
NOTE: It is critical that no programs, virus
checkers, or other utilities are running while
LANtastic is being installed.
